LISA LEACH'S CRUELTY IN WEDNESBURY: ELDERLY DOG STARVATION AND NEGLECT LEADS TO SUSPENDED SENTENCE

Lisa Leach, a resident of Moor Street in Wednesbury, has been convicted of severe neglect and starvation of her elderly Labrador, Lucas.

The heartbreaking case came to light when the RSPCA launched an investigation after concerns were raised about the dog’s condition.

Lucas, a 15-year-old dog, was found in a deplorable state, suffering from extreme malnutrition and living in an environment filled with filth and household rubbish.

RSPCA investigator Karl Marston was the first to assess the situation.

Upon entering Leach’s property, he immediately became concerned about Lucas’s health.

The dog’s body condition was alarming; his waist appeared very thin, and his ribcage and hip bones were prominently visible despite his thick fur.

The dog was visibly wet, unsteady on his feet, and could only stand for brief moments before collapsing or needing support.

The scene was distressing, with the garden where Lucas had been kept being described as cluttered and filthy.

It was filled with dog faeces, household rubbish, and thick, brown, sludgy material near the door.

Scattered dog biscuits and bowls were found in the area, indicating some attempt at care, but it was grossly inadequate given the dog’s condition.

Inspector Marston remarked on the neglect, stating, “The garden was very cluttered with household rubbish, dog faeces, and the area nearest the door was covered in thick brown sludgy material.” He emphasized that Lucas depended entirely on Leach for his care and well-being.

The inspector expressed his disappointment, saying, “Lucas was an elderly dog who should have been treated with kindness and compassion but was instead left to suffer without any help or the veterinary care he desperately needed.” He further explained, “Dogs feel pain and suffering just like we do and always deserve to be shown kindness and compassion.” The investigation concluded with Leach being brought before the courts.

She was sentenced to 18 weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay a fine of £800 along with a victim surcharge of £154.

Additionally, she was banned from owning animals for a period of 10 years, a ban that will remain in effect until February 2035.

This case highlights the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of neglecting those who cannot speak for themselves.
