LIAM WOOD SENTENCED IN STAFFORDSHIRE FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN BURTON-ON-TRENT
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Liam Stephen Wood, aged 19, has been sentenced to nine years in prison following his conviction on serious charges related to the exploitation of a young girl. The case came to light after the brave actions of the survivor, a female child under the age of 13, who came forward to disclose the abuse she endured at the hands of Wood.
Wood, a resident of Burton, appeared before Stafford Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
These included two counts of causing or inciting a female child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, as well as three counts of making indecent photographs of a child.
The court proceedings revealed the gravity of his offenses and the extent of his misconduct.
Following the sentencing on Thursday, November 7, the court imposed a comprehensive set of penalties designed to protect the public and prevent further harm.
Wood was sentenced to nine years in prison, with an additional five-year extended license period, which means he will be under supervision for a total of 14 years post-release.
Furthermore, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, a measure that ensures ongoing monitoring of his activities.
In addition to the prison sentence and registration requirements, Wood was issued a restraining order that prohibits him from contacting or approaching the victim for the next ten years.
The court also imposed a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), restricting his access to certain online platforms and activities that could facilitate further offenses.
The case was brought to justice after the victim, demonstrating remarkable courage, disclosed her ordeal to someone in May 2024.
This disclosure prompted an immediate response from law enforcement authorities.
Officers from the child protection team (CPT) launched a thorough investigation, which ultimately led to Wood’s arrest and the charges being brought against him.
Despite his initial denial of the allegations during police interviews, the evidence collected was sufficient to secure a conviction.
The community of Burton-on-Trent and the wider Staffordshire area can find some reassurance in the fact that justice has been served in this disturbing case.
Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of speaking out against abuse and supporting victims in coming forward to ensure that offenders are held accountable.
