DALTON MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN AFTER NIGHT OUT
A MAN has been jailed for sexually assaulting a woman in Dalton.
Liam Sloane, aged 37, was convicted after ignoring the woman's verbal and physical cues during a night out in Dalton-in-Furness.
According to prosecutor Beth Pilling, Sloane asked to kiss her, then persisted and took hold of her neck and lips.
He then pushed her backwards and held her down by her shoulders, despite her attempts to push him away.
The victim managed to record a video of the incident showing her lack of consent.
She delivered a powerful victim impact statement, describing how her life has changed since the assault, with increased anxiety, emotional distress, nightmares, and trust issues.
Sloane pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault.
His defense argued that his behavior was out of character, largely influenced by intoxication, and that he was genuinely remorseful.
Her Honour Judge Lloyd sentenced Sloane to 12 months in prison, noting that he took little responsibility and lacked insight.
The court also imposed a restraining order and sex offender notification requirements for 10 years.
