MAN WHO SET HIS MOTHER'S HOUSE ON FIRE AFTER BREAKING IN AND STEALING
An intoxicated individual, Liam Patrick Deeney, caused extensive damage and posed a significant threat to his own mother's house after breaking in and setting it ablaze.
Reports indicate that Deeney entered the property on Thornton Road in Tyldesley by climbing through a back window while his mother was away in Blackpool.
He then intentionally ignited the residence in a highly hazardous act.
Authorities explained that his reckless conduct also endangered neighboring properties.
On the night of Sunday, May 21, 2023, around 11 pm, Deeney accessed the house and stole food and alcohol from the fridge.
Subsequently, he started two separate fires—one in the bedroom wardrobes and another on an armchair in the living room.
The resulting flames quickly consumed the entire bungalow, leading to approximately £35,000 in damages and destroying sentimental belongings such as medals, jewelry, clothing, and photographs.
Police confirmed that Deeney, aged 30 and residing on Lever Street, Tyldesley, was apprehended and admitted guilt to arson incurred recklessly with regard to risking lives.
He received a sentence of three years and four months in prison at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
A five-year restraining order was also imposed to prevent contact with his mother, alongside a surcharge of £228.
Detective Constable Riyaz Patel underscored the severity of his actions and reiterated ongoing efforts to tackle domestic violence offenders to protect victims and uphold justice.
