Castleford Child Sexual Abuser
In August 2022, Liam Lindsay, a resident of Castleford, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of downloading child abuse images for the second time. The court proceedings revealed a distressing pattern of offending behavior, which culminated in Lindsay breaking down in tears upon hearing the judge’s decision.
Leeds Crown Court heard that law enforcement authorities had received intelligence in February 2019 indicating that illegal images were being downloaded onto a mobile device linked to Lindsay. At that time, police acted swiftly, arresting him at his residence on Ambleside Road in Castleford. During the search, officers confiscated a mobile phone that contained nearly 170 images of child abuse, categorized from Category A, the most severe, to Category C. The device also showed evidence of attempts to conceal activity, as Lindsay had deleted his internet browsing history and removed the Kik messaging application, which is often used for file sharing.
This conduct was a clear violation of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that had been imposed on Lindsay in December 2015. The order was a response to his previous conviction for 11 counts of downloading indecent images, for which he received an eight-week jail sentence, suspended for three years. Additionally, he was subject to a seven-year SHPO aimed at restricting his internet activity and monitoring his online behavior.
Following his arrest in 2019, Lindsay denied the charges and was scheduled for trial. However, he failed to appear in court this year, leading to his arrest and remand into custody. Recently, during a court hearing conducted via video link from HMP Leeds, where he was held on remand, Lindsay admitted to three counts of downloading illegal images and breaching his SHPO. He also confessed to two violations of the sex offenders register by failing to notify authorities of a change of address, after being found living at a property on Moorfield Crescent in Hemsworth.
Judge Simon Phillips addressed Lindsay directly, stating, “You have effectively not been deterred from offending. You have a sexual interest in children that continues. There’s a high risk of offending.” As the judge delivered the sentence, Lindsay’s sobs grew louder, reflecting his distress. The court sentenced him to a further 12 months in prison and imposed a new 10-year SHPO, emphasizing the ongoing concern about his risk to the community and the need for strict supervision.
