FIFE MAN LIAM HOOLLEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND SEXTING IN KIRKCALDY

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Kirkcaldy, a 22-year-old man named Liam Hooley from Fife has been convicted of serious offenses involving the distribution of indecent images of children and the sending of explicit material to women.

The incidents, which spanned over several months, culminated in Hooley being placed on the sex offenders register for a period of three years.

Hooley’s criminal activities came to light after police investigations revealed that he had used his mobile phone, specifically an iPhone, to send disturbing images and messages.

He employed a false identity, pretending to be a woman named Michelle and a man called Dave, in order to contact women and engage in a disturbing exchange of sexually explicit content.

The victims included two women, aged 20 and 19, who initially believed they were communicating with genuine individuals.

The first victim, a 20-year-old woman from Kirkcaldy, received a series of obscene messages and images over a span of four days.

These included requests for her to perform sexual acts on herself, as well as images of naked women.

Concerned about the nature of these messages, she reached out to a friend, a 19-year-old woman, to verify the number.

The second woman then also began receiving similar explicit messages and images from the same unknown number, which was later linked to Hooley.

The police investigation uncovered further disturbing evidence when they executed a search warrant at Hooley’s residence on St Kilda Crescent.

During the search, officers discovered an iPhone hidden beneath his mattress, containing illicit material.

The evidence included indecent images of children, which Hooley had sent to the women and also distributed himself.

On January 31 of the previous year, Hooley sent a particularly disturbing image of a child, followed by another image depicting a young boy with two girls engaging in sexual activity.

These actions prompted immediate police action and subsequent legal proceedings.

Hooley was charged and appeared before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, where he admitted to distributing or showing indecent photographs of children on that date.

His solicitor, Kyrsten Buist, provided some context for Hooley’s actions, stating that the offenses stemmed from a period of low self-esteem.

Despite this, the court recognized the severity of his crimes.

Hooley also pleaded guilty to a series of related offenses, including sending sexually explicit messages and images to the two women between October 1, 2012, and December 7, 2012, and again between January 12 and January 31, 2013.

These communications involved requests for the women to send similar images of a sexual nature back to him.

During the sentencing hearing, Sheriff Max Hendry emphasized the gravity of Hooley’s offenses, stating, “This type of offence merits a prison sentence.

That is my starting point.

That is notwithstanding the fact you have no criminal record.” However, he also considered alternative measures and ultimately sentenced Hooley to undergo three years of supervision, along with being placed on the sex offenders register for three years.

In summary, the case highlights the disturbing nature of online exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from such predatory behavior.

Liam Hooley’s actions have left a lasting mark on the community of Kirkcaldy, serving as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by those who misuse digital platforms for criminal purposes.
