OFFENDER WITH SERIOUS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RECORD SENTENCED TO 22 MONTHS IN PRISON
A drunken individual, Liam Greenwood, flew into a rage and physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend, Wendy Littler, in front of their five-year-old daughter.Greenwood, who had recently been released from a lengthy imprisonment, showed a sudden escalation in rage after being asked to clean up food he had dropped.
He responded by grabbing Littler by the throat, squeezing until she lost consciousness.
The assault continued as Greenwood kicked her while she was on the ground, leaving her with bruising and ongoing soreness months later.
Greenwood then left the scene after damaging a window and calling Littler derogatory names, while outside, he loitered and threatened her safety.
During the hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, the court was told that Greenwood had a total of 23 previous convictions for 69 offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and escaping lawful custody.
His criminal record includes an 18-month supervision order in 2007, six years for burglary in 2015, and an 84-month sentence for theft-related offences in 2020.
Greenwood was recalled to serve the remainder of this sentence and is not due for release until January 2027.
Greenwood admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, and criminal damage.
He was sentenced to 22 months in jail and received a 10-year restraining order.
Judge Stuart Driver KC emphasized the serious impact of the attack on the victim and her daughter, noting the ongoing mental health issues and fear experienced by them.
The judge also highlighted aggravating features, such as Greenwood's intoxication and his criminal history, as reasons for the sentence.
Greenwood's defense acknowledged his severe criminal record but claimed his only serious assault was in his youth.
The court was told that the relationship was toxic and that Greenwood was experiencing difficulties being back in prison.
The sentence aims to reflect the severity of his actions and to protect the victims from further harm.
