LEWIS MORTIMER AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL IN KENT
Lewis Mortimer, a man from Sittingbourne in Kent, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a series of disturbing criminal behaviors related to child exploitation. The 42-year-old offender was convicted following the discovery of a significant amount of illegal material, including a paedophile manual and over 23,000 images depicting children in various states of abuse.
Mortimer’s criminal record is extensive, with prior convictions for child sex offences.
His previous offences led to court-imposed restrictions on his internet access, requiring him to notify authorities of any devices capable of connecting online, along with providing details such as his online usernames, bank card information, and passport details.
Despite these legal constraints intended to prevent further offences, he continued to engage in illicit activities.
The police investigations into Mortimer's activities intensified after reports in December 2019 indicated he had reached out to a woman online, claiming to be a photographer working with young children.
Authorities responded swiftly, recognizing the potential danger posed by such online contact.
Several months later, further allegations surfaced after Mortimer contacted another woman and subsequently sent her images depicting children in states of sexual abuse.
These actions prompted a more thorough investigation.
In April 2020, law enforcement officers executed a search of Mortimer’s residence.
During this operation, they seized multiple devices from his home, including a tablet concealed within the base of his bed.
These devices were meticulously examined by police specialists for illegal content.
The analysis revealed a disturbing array of indecent images and pages from a paedophile manual, which contained explicit instructions on grooming and molesting children.
The most alarming discovery was the presence of over 23,000 images stored on Mortimer’s tablet.
Many of these images were classified under the most severe categories, indicating their extreme and abusive nature.
The evidence indicated a deep involvement in the possession and distribution of child abuse material.
Mortimer subsequently appeared before Maidstone Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
His admissions included three counts of distributing indecent images, four counts of possessing indecent images, and possession of a paedophile manual.
He also admitted to ten breaches of his notification requirements and seven additional violations of a sexual offence prevention order that aimed to restrict his activities.
The court handed down a five-year prison sentence, along with an extended licence period of two additional years.
It was also mandated that Mortimer would remain on the sex offenders register for life, underscoring the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses.
Detective Sergeant Vicky Whitmill expressed her firm stance on such cases, stating, “Mortimer was subject to strict measures designed to reduce the risk of him reoffending.
He has been unable to adhere to these restrictions and has demonstrated a clear determination to access illegal and harmful images, many of which include the horrific abuse of children.
Make no mistake, the material Mortimer deliberately sought and downloaded will have resulted from real victims suffering appalling abuse.
He has a significant offending history and appears to have no understanding of the gravity of his actions.
People like him must face the consequences, and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure they are brought before the courts.”
