LEWIS MCDONALD'S BRUTAL KNIFE ATTACK IN DUNFERMLINE LEAVES WOMAN SCARRED FOR LIFE

A violent incident involving Lewis McDonald, a 21-year-old man from Dunfermline, has resulted in a woman suffering serious facial injuries after a confrontation that turned aggressive.

The assault took place at an address in Dunfermline on April 27 of this year, during which McDonald used a knife to inflict a significant wound on his victim.

According to court proceedings, McDonald appeared via videolink from HMP Polmont for sentencing after previously admitting guilt to a domestically-aggravated assault involving a knife.

The assault caused severe injury and permanent disfigurement to the woman, who was left with a roughly 10-centimeter laceration extending from her earlobe to the middle of her cheek.

The injury required stitches and is expected to leave a lasting scar.

During the hearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Sheriff Krista Johnston addressed McDonald directly, stating, “You pled guilty to an extremely violent assault you carried out on a vulnerable woman.” The court sentenced him to 29 months in prison, with an additional 101 days to account for previous offending while on licence.

Furthermore, Sheriff Johnston imposed a one-year supervised release order, which includes a requirement for McDonald to participate in alcohol and drug counseling programs.

The court was informed that McDonald and the woman had been in a relationship but had recently separated.

On the day of the attack, they were still at her home.

An argument erupted during which McDonald accused her of stealing money from him while he was incarcerated.

The situation escalated when he struck her in the face, initially causing her to believe she had been punched.

However, she soon realized she was bleeding heavily and saw that McDonald was holding a flick knife.

Following the assault, McDonald fled the scene by running downstairs and climbing out of a window.

The victim, in distress, called a friend to report that she had been “slashed.” The friend promptly contacted the police, and the woman was transported to Victoria Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The injury, a deep slash on her face, was treated with stitches, but the damage is permanent, leaving her with visible scarring.

Regarding McDonald’s criminal history, the court reviewed a social work report that highlighted his previous convictions, which include violent offenses involving weapons and domestic abuse.

His defense lawyer, Alexander Flett, pointed out that McDonald has been on remand since May 3 and has shown genuine remorse and regret for his actions.

The lawyer also noted that a non-custodial sentence had been recommended previously.

However, Sheriff Johnston emphasized the seriousness of McDonald’s record, describing it as “appalling,” and noted that previous efforts with non-custodial sentences had failed to prevent further violence.

She made it clear that a significant custodial sentence was necessary to reflect the court’s disgust and to serve as a deterrent.

The court’s decision underscores the gravity of the assault and the need for appropriate punishment to address the defendant’s history of violence.
