The trial of Lewis Mba took place on July 25, 2011, at Snaresbrook Crown Court, with His Honour Judge Pardoe QC overseeing proceedings along with a jury.
The appellant was found guilty of committing rape, in breach of section 1(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, and of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, on respective counts of the indictment.
The judge imposed sentences on August 21 of the same year: a term of imprisonment for public protection for the rape, with a minimum custodial period of five and a half years, and an 11-year prison sentence for the grievous bodily harm.
