LEWIS BRYAN AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN ARBROATH AND DUNDEE
A lecturer named Lewis Bryan has been sentenced to prison following a series of serious criminal activities that took place during his tenure at Dundee and Angus Colleges in Arbroath.The court proceedings revealed that Bryan, aged 29, engaged in coercive and sexual misconduct involving former students, leading to a significant legal conviction.
Bryan was sentenced this week to a term of 27 months behind bars at Dundee Sheriff Court.
In addition to his custodial sentence, he has been mandated to register on the sex offenders register for the next ten years, reflecting the gravity of his misconduct.
The conviction came after a trial held in February, where Bryan was found guilty of multiple charges related to sexual coercion and attempted extortion.
The allegations against Bryan centered around his inappropriate actions between January 2017 and March 2018.
Court documents detailed how he had threatened one of his former students, saying he would withhold submission of coursework to the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) unless the student acquiesced to sending him explicit images.
This coercive tactic was part of a broader pattern of misconduct that included sending indecent Snapchat messages to two former students, many of which contained sexually explicit content.
Several victims provided testimony during the trial, with one former pupil describing the experiences as traumatising.
The court also viewed a disturbing screenshot selfie of Bryan, which was accompanied by a caption reading ‘send nudes (obviously)’.
One victim recounted that Bryan, while teaching at Dundee and Angus Colleges' Arbroath campus, had sent him lewd images featuring Bryan’s partner, with emojis strategically placed to conceal his genitals.
Further evidence included photographs that allowed one of the victims to identify Bryan.
These images revealed tattoos on Bryan’s body—tattoos associated with TV series such as Twin Peaks and the video game BioShock—tattoos that Bryan had shown to students in class, increasing the severity of his misconduct.
During the sentencing hearing, Bryan, who had previously worked as a chef before his arrest, returned to the dock to face his punishment.
His defender, Paul Parker-Smith, stated that Bryan continued to deny the allegations.
However, the presiding Sheriff, Carmichael, made clear that given the serious nature of the charges, a custodial sentence was the only appropriate outcome.
Following Bryan’s conviction, Dundee and Angus Colleges issued a statement confirming that he had left the institution in 2018.
The college chose not to provide further comment on the case.
