Meopham Domestic Abuser
Levi Eastwood, a 20-year-old resident of Scratton Fields, Sole Street, subjected his 18-year-old girlfriend, Martine Read, to a terrifying ordeal. Under the influence of cocaine, he brutally assaulted her, causing serious injuries. Eastwood also threatened her with murder, saying he would 'batter her like a dog' and dispose of her body in a lake. Additionally, he kept her confined for hours in a remote cabin. Judge Philip Statman described Eastwood’s conduct as shameful, stating, 'You treated her shamefully. You are a thug and a bully with scant understanding of how properly a man should behave to a woman within a relationship.' Eastwood admitted guilt to multiple charges, including assault causing actual bodily harm and false imprisonment, and received a three-year prison sentence. Initially, Read hesitated to cooperate with the police, fearing she would be labeled a 'grass' in her community. Investigations revealed that Eastwood had a history of violence, including stabbing Read’s father with scissors. Throughout the assaults, he reportedly used extreme violence, such as backhanding, kicking, and pulling her hair. His case underscores the grave problem of domestic violence, highlighting the importance of awareness and intervention.
