November 2005 Child rapist is jailed 40 years on A BRUTE was jailed for raping a small child FORTY years ago – after his victim shopped him as she fought for life following a car crash.

Leslie Barry, 73, was found guilty of raping the girl seven times.

He was also convicted of another serious offence against her and three charges of cruelty.

The rape victim called in police last September when she thought she was going to die after the road smash.

She told Norwich Crown Court: “I did not want him to get away with it.” Twice-divorced Barry, of King’s Lynn – who regularly beat his wives – denied all the charges.

But he was jailed for 11 years and put on the sex offenders’ register for life.

He was also convicted of three offences of cruelty to children.

Judge Paul Downes told him: “You hit those children with whatever came to hand, kicking them and pulling them by the hair.

“Your cruelty made life unbearable for them for a long time.” The rape victim – now recovered from the crash – said: “I’m pleased that the truth has finally come out.

“The important thing is to be believed – not the length of the sentence.”
