Edgware Sexual Abuser
In a case that has spanned nearly three decades, Leonard Hollis, a 75-year-old man residing on Station Road in Edgware, has been convicted of systematically abusing a young girl during her time at a gymnastics club. The disturbing incidents took place between 1981 and 1985, when the victim was just seven years old and a member of the after-school program at Childs Hill School, located in Cricklewood.

Hollis’s heinous actions came to light only recently, after the victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, decided to come forward and report the abuse last year. The victim revealed that Hollis had indecently touched her multiple times over the course of several years, a revelation that prompted a police investigation into the matter.

Following a thorough investigation, Hollis pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 during a court hearing held at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday. The court proceedings uncovered the extent of the abuse and confirmed Hollis’s culpability in these serious crimes.

Detective Constable Keith Olivant, a member of the child abuse investigation team, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the case. He emphasized the importance of diligent police work and the bravery of the victim in coming forward. Olivant stated, “I am pleased that this has been a successful prosecution. Two factors contributed to this; the diligence of the police investigation and the courage of the victim in coming forward. In bringing those responsible to justice, police always hope that it will help a victim to begin the healing process; indeed, the victim has stated that this will help her draw a line under a truly distressing episode in her life.”

Hollis, who was employed as a waiter for a catering company prior to his arrest, was sentenced to three 12-month prison terms, which will be suspended for two years. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years. The court’s decision reflects the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing importance of protecting vulnerable children from such predatory behavior.
