LEON JACKSON PENS PENSARN TEENAGE GIRLS SEXUAL TEXTS AND IS JAILED
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Pensarn near Abergele, Leon Michael Jackson, an army cadet instructor, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of sending sexually suggestive messages to two underage girls. The incident, which came to light in December 2010, revealed a pattern of inappropriate communication that spanned several months and involved the use of both text messaging and online platforms.Jackson, aged 23 at the time of sentencing, resided on South Parade in Pensarn. The court heard that he had engaged in a series of inappropriate exchanges with a girl under the age of 16 over a period of three months. During this time, he persistently sent her numerous messages, many of a sexual nature, which caused significant concern among authorities and the victims' families. The second girl, also a teenager, received similar messages from Jackson, although over a shorter duration.
Prosecutor Karl Scholz detailed the extent of Jackson’s misconduct, describing how the younger girl was subjected to daily text messages, often sent during school hours. These messages included questions like “do you like me” and “do you fancy me,” which indicated an attempt to groom her and establish a personal connection that was clearly inappropriate given her age. The older girl received over 110 messages within just a few days, with Jackson repeatedly sending the same messages multiple times in rapid succession. He also inquired about her clothing and sexual activities, asking whether she had any “sexy outfits” and if she would engage in sexual acts with him.
Jackson was also accused of using a website to communicate with one of the girls, further demonstrating his attempts to manipulate and groom the victims. The court heard that he explicitly instructed the girls not to tell anyone about the messages, a clear indication of his intent to conceal his actions and continue his inappropriate behavior.
When arrested by police, Jackson claimed to have had minimal contact with the girls and initially denied the charges. His case was scheduled for trial, but prior to Christmas, his legal representatives indicated that he would plead guilty to the charges. Jackson admitted to two counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and an additional charge of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
Judge Peter Heywood sentenced Jackson to 21 months in prison, emphasizing the severity of his actions. The judge stated, “You repeatedly sent messages of a sexual nature which were completely inappropriate. The only way to deal with this matter is an immediate custodial sentence.”
In addition to his prison term, Jackson is required to register his address with the police for the next ten years and is prohibited from working with children in any capacity. The case has raised concerns about safeguarding and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable minors from grooming and exploitation, especially within community settings like Pensarn.
