MAN CONVICTED OF SEX OFFENCES AGAINST TEENAGE GIRL
A man convicted of sex offenses who had previously gone into hiding to avoid detection has been found guilty.Leon Beckham engaged in grooming a teenage girl over a period of several months in 2024.
During this time, Beckham would take the girl on day trips and visits to various locations nationwide, where he committed sexual abuses.
Concerned about their relationship, authorities launched an investigation, which led to Beckham attempting to conceal himself under a bed to escape arrest.
He was eventually detained and interviewed by officers, who reported that he refused to comment.
Beckham also failed to appear after his bail was called, prompting officers to locate him at a residence in Hastings, Sussex, where he was once again apprehended.
In his interview, Beckham denied the allegations, claiming that the girl had blackmailed him, although he could not clarify why she would do so or explain why he had erased messages that might have supported his case.
The defendant, of Sandilands Close in Coventry, was convicted of six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 17, along with charges of breaching a position of trust.
He is scheduled to be sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on June 26 and remains in custody until that hearing.
