LEON ALEXANDER SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN NORTH LONDON
In a significant case that has sent shockwaves through the London community, Leon Alexander, a 31-year-old man, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving rape and sexual assault committed against young women in North London.Alexander’s criminal activities spanned over a decade, with incidents occurring in 2010, 2017, and 2022.
His modus operandi involved befriending vulnerable women who were alone, often through social media or online platforms, before luring them into secluded areas where he would carry out his assaults.
His tactics included exchanging contact details such as phone numbers or social media IDs, which he used to establish a false sense of trust before executing his predatory acts.
The first known incident took place in February 2010.
Alexander met his initial victim through an online platform, and after exchanging messages and contact details, he arranged to meet her.
Believing she was going to his residence, the young woman was instead led into a dark communal room within a block of flats in Tottenham.
It was there that Alexander committed a sexual assault, leaving her traumatized and frightened.
The second incident occurred in June 2017.
The second victim recognized Alexander at a shop in Edmonton, having previously befriended him a year earlier.
However, their contact was severed after Alexander sent her an unsolicited explicit photograph of himself.
Despite this, they crossed paths again when Alexander approached her outside the shop.
He then pushed her into a parked car, exposed himself, and sexually assaulted her.
Later that night, Alexander sent her a message, which was instrumental in tracing and identifying him through his phone number.
The third victim’s ordeal happened in March 2022.
She left her friend’s flat in Upper Edmonton around 8 pm and noticed Alexander walking nearby.
After a brief exchange of words, Alexander followed her and proceeded to commit a rape in the stairwell of a building.
The victim reported the assault to the police that same evening, leading to Alexander’s immediate arrest.
Following a comprehensive three-week trial at Wood Green Crown Court in March 2023, all three victims provided detailed testimonies.
The jury found Alexander guilty of two counts of rape, as well as charges of sexual assault and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
The court sentenced him on Friday, June 23, to a total of 17 years in prison, marking a significant victory for justice and victim support in the London area.
