In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Ellon, Aberdeenshire, a young man named Lenny Young has pleaded guilty to the serious crime of raping a 12-year-old girl in a public park. The incident took place during the summer holidays of 2011, a period marked by increased outdoor activity and social gatherings among local youths.

According to court proceedings held at the High Court in Dundee, Young, who was 18 years old at the time, had established a seemingly friendly relationship with the young girl and her group of schoolfriends. These acquaintances reportedly included other teenagers aged between 12 and 16, with whom Young had managed to develop a rapport. The court heard that on the day of the assault, the girl was under the influence of alcohol for the first time in her life, which appeared to have affected her judgment and decision-making.

The court was informed that Young led the girl to a pavilion located beside tennis courts within the park in Ellon. It was there that he engaged in sexual activity with her. The incident was described as a rape under Scottish law, which considers any sexual act with a girl under the age of 13 as statutory rape. Young, now aged 20 and residing at Home Farm Arnage in Ellon, admitted to the charges on the day of the hearing.

Advocate depute Gillian Wade provided details of the case, emphasizing that the events occurred during the school summer break. Witnesses, who were also friends of the girl, testified that they had met Young in the park and sometimes obtained alcohol together.
