LEESA MCKAY SHOCKS PAISLEY WITH NEGLIGENT CARE OF CHILDREN AND HORRIFIC CONDITIONS

In a disturbing case that has drawn attention to child neglect and poor living conditions, Leesa McKay, a woman from Paisley, was found to have left her two children alone in a deplorable environment without proper care or supervision.

The incident occurred during the night of July 12 to July 13 in the year 2019, when McKay was entrusted with the responsibility of caring for her two children, aged 12 and 15.

Instead of returning home as expected, she abandoned her children, leaving the 15-year-old to look after the younger sibling.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the flat where the children were left was in a shocking state of filth, covered in animal faeces and urine.

The conditions inside the residence were described as unhygienic, with inadequate bedding, furniture, and food supplies for the children.

The environment posed serious health risks, and the situation was deemed neglectful and dangerous.

Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill publicly condemned McKay for her conduct, emphasizing the severity of her neglect.

Despite the serious nature of the case, McKay was not subjected to immediate punishment.

Instead, her legal representatives explained that the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) had intervened by removing the animals from her home.

Additionally, social workers had provided support to McKay, who was reportedly suffering from mental health issues at the time, helping her to regain stability.

In December, it was reported that McKay was facing two charges under the Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Act 1967.

She reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, pleading guilty to one charge in exchange for the other being dropped.

The charge she admitted to involved wilful neglect that caused unnecessary suffering or injury to her child.

Specifically, she was accused of leaving her children in a residence that was contaminated with animal urine and faeces, providing insufficient food and bedding, and maintaining overall unhygienic conditions that endangered their health.

As part of her sentencing, McKay's case was deferred for six months, with the condition that she maintain good behavior during this period.

The case has raised concerns about child welfare and the importance of proper supervision and living conditions for minors, especially in cases where mental health issues may impair a caregiver’s ability to provide adequate care.
