LEEROY BAILEY FROM COVENTRY FACES JAIL OVER CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Coventry, Leeroy Bailey, a 36-year-old dance instructor and former finalist on Britain’s Got Talent, has been implicated in serious allegations involving the creation and possession of indecent images of children. The incident came to light after police discovered the images on Bailey’s mobile phone, which he had recorded between January 1, 2014, and April 3, 2016.
Bailey, who gained fame as part of the dance group Kombat Breakers and competed in the 2007 final of the ITV talent show, was arrested following an incident at his residence in Foleshill, Coventry.
The police investigation was triggered when officers found a 15-year-old boy intoxicated at Bailey’s home.
During the subsequent search, authorities seized electronic devices, including Bailey’s mobile phone, which contained the illicit images.
At Warwick Crown Court, Bailey pleaded guilty to one count of making indecent images of children.
Specifically, he admitted to creating two 'category C' films, which are classified as depicting children in naked or indecent poses.
The court heard that Bailey recorded these images on his mobile device over a span of more than two years.
Despite the disturbing nature of the content, Bailey maintained that his motives were not sexual in nature, a claim that the court did not find convincing.
The sentencing hearing revealed further details about the content of the videos.
Recorder David Herbert QC described the first video as involving two boys, both under 18, walking down the street with their buttocks exposed, while Bailey was seen filming behind them.
The court noted that Bailey was encouraging the boys and even asked them to bend over to better capture their bodies.
The second video involved two boys at Bailey’s house—one over 18 and the other under 18.
The older boy was naked, holding his groin area, while Bailey filmed him from close range.
The footage focused on the groin and buttocks, indicating a sexual motive.
Judge Herbert emphasized the inappropriate and sexual nature of the videos, stating, “They are, as I hope you now appreciate, grossly inappropriate and sexual in nature.” The court also considered Bailey’s age and maturity, with the defense arguing that he was immature and lacked understanding of proper boundaries.
However, the judge pointed out that Bailey, being 36, was an adult, while the boys involved were teenagers, with three under 18.
The court expressed concern over the potential reactions of the boys’ parents had they known about Bailey’s actions.
Bailey denied additional charges related to five other films and one image, which were alleged to involve more serious sexual acts, including children being forced into penetrative sex.
He also denied two further charges concerning one film and four images depicting non-penetrative sexual acts involving children.
These additional charges were ordered to lie on file, meaning they would not be prosecuted at this time but remain on record.
Prosecutor Ravi Sidhu explained that the case was uncovered after police spoke with the 15-year-old boy at Bailey’s home, who was found intoxicated.
The police then seized computers and electronic devices from Bailey’s residence.
The investigation revealed the extent of Bailey’s activities, which included filming minors in sexually explicit situations.
The court was told that Bailey’s actions were deeply inappropriate and had the potential to cause significant harm.
In his sentencing remarks, Recorder Herbert highlighted the gravity of the offense, stating that Bailey’s conduct was not only illegal but also morally reprehensible.
Bailey was handed a three-year community order, which includes participation in a sex offender treatment program and 40 days of rehabilitation.
The court also ordered the destruction of all images and films, imposed a sexual harm prevention order, and required Bailey to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
As the case continues to unfold, the community remains concerned about the implications of such offenses and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and abuse.
Bailey’s case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and strict enforcement of laws protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
