LEEANN BAIRD IN KINCARDINE FACES ONE-YEAR ANIMAL OWNERSHIP BAN AFTER NEGLECT INCIDENT

In 2022, Leeann Baird, born on August 8, 1990, and residing at 12 Cameron Place, Kincardine, Alloa FK10 4RD, was convicted and received a one-year ban from owning animals. The court also imposed a £200 fine after she admitted to neglecting her seven-year-old whippet, Preston, by failing to provide proper nutrition and veterinary care.

Scottish SPCA officers visited Baird’s home on April 23, 2021, following reports of a neglected dog. When they arrived, another individual answered the door and initially denied the presence of any dogs at the residence. Despite this, Preston was found inside in a severely emaciated state with overgrown nails and a dry, flaky coat.

The officers seized the dog and took him to a veterinarian, where he was found to weigh only 10.7 kg. Preston responded eagerly to food when it was offered. It was determined that he had been suffering from malnutrition for at least 28 days, likely longer, with no underlying health issues identified through blood tests.

Baird explained she had considered seeking veterinary treatment for Preston but could not afford it. Scottish SPCA inspector Mairi Wright commented on the case, saying: “We are pleased that Baird was handed a £200 fine and ban. Baird was responsible for the welfare of Preston and sadly his needs were not met. We understand that veterinary costs can become a worry, but ignoring Preston’s condition was not the way to handle the situation and caused him an unnecessary amount of suffering. We are glad that Preston finally received the treatment he needed and is now in a loving home getting the care he deserves.”

The court sentenced Baird to a £200 fine and a one-year ban from keeping animals, which is set to expire in July 2023.
