LEE SOWDEN FROM LEICESTER JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES AND COVER-UP ATTEMPT
In a significant case that has shocked the Leicester community, Lee Sowden, a 42-year-old resident of Grosvenor Gate in Leicester, has been sentenced to a year in prison following his conviction on multiple charges related to child exploitation.The proceedings took place at Leicester Crown Court, where Sowden was found guilty on six counts of creating indecent images of children.
Additionally, he faced a charge for failing to comply with a Section 49 notice, which required him to disclose the key to encrypted data containing protected information.
Sowden’s refusal to cooperate with authorities further complicated the investigation.
The case came to light after police executed a warrant at Sowden’s Leicester home.
The operation was initiated based on intelligence suggesting that Sowden had used the internet to download and possibly distribute indecent images of minors.
During the search, officers seized various computer devices and storage media, aiming to gather evidence related to the allegations.
However, the investigation faced a setback when one of the storage devices could not be accessed.
The device had been encrypted, and Sowden refused to provide the necessary passwords despite being issued a Section 49 notice.
This refusal hindered the authorities’ ability to fully examine the contents, raising concerns about the extent of the material stored on his devices.
Following the three-day trial, Sowden was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment on Thursday, November 1.
In addition to his jail term, the court imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting Sowden’s activities and contact to prevent any further harm.
