GWYNEDD MAN HIT PARTNER WITH CAR AND ATTACKED GOOD SAMARITAN IN RUTHIN
A man named Lee Richard Roberts from Blaen Ddol, Bala, has been convicted for dangerous driving and assault after a serious incident in Ruthin. During the court hearing, Roberts admitted to knocking his partner over with a car following an argument and later displayed aggressive behavior with police. According to the court, Roberts was seen arguing with a woman in a layby near the rugby club in Ruthin at around 8:20 PM on August 19. Witnesses reported him driving the car at the woman multiple times, hitting her and knocking her to the ground before fleeing the scene. After police arrived, Roberts refused to cooperate, becoming aggressive and resisting arrest. During a scuffle, he punched and bit a bystander who attempted to assist the officer. He was also observed doing handbrake turns and wheel spins in the vicinity. Roberts was found to have previous convictions for assault, dangerous driving, and driving whilst disqualified. He refused to provide a breath sample and refused to answer police questions. Sentencing included a 16-month prison term, suspended for 18 months, along with a requirement to undergo an alcohol treatment order and participate in a 35-day thinking skills programme. Additionally, Roberts faces a three-year driving ban and must pass an extended driving test before returning to the road. His lawyer suggested that the suspended sentence and treatment could help him rehabilitate, while the judge criticized Roberts' conduct and emphasized the seriousness of his actions by stating, "You behaved in a disgraceful manner. Under the influence of alcohol, you quarreled with your partner and drove a car at her. This is a serious offence which crosses the custody threshold."
