HUDDERSFIELD MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER ASSAULT ON PARTNER IN FRONT OF CHILD
Lee Reid, 25, launched an attack on the mother of his two children after she criticised him for being hungover.He assaulted Maria Nettleton at their shared home on Gilbert Grove, Crosland Moor, on August 13.
He pushed her, causing her to land in the fireplace, and punched her three or four times, which caused bleeding in her mouth.
Their three-year-old son became very upset during the incident, and she attempted to comfort him.
Reid then punched her several times in the face.
After the attack, the shaken mother left the house to stay with a cousin and called police.
Officers found a damaged microwave on the kitchen floor, and Ms.
Nettleton had cuts to her mouth and the back of her head, seeking medical treatment.
Magistrates were told that there had been past reports of arguments at the house, but this was the first involving violence.
Reid pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and criminal damage.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community order with supervision, ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work, pay £185 in costs and compensation, and participate in the Safer Relationships Programme.
He expressed hope to reconcile with his partner.
