Dundee Domestic Abuser
Lee Meldrum, a roofer from Dundee, found himself in the dock at Dundee Sheriff Court after admitting to a pattern of abusive conduct directed towards his former wife over a period spanning from April 2021 to December 2022. The incidents took place at various addresses in Dundee and Invergowrie, highlighting a troubling history of harassment and intimidation.
The court was informed of a particularly alarming incident that occurred just four days after Christmas at The Klub gym on Main Street in Invergowrie. According to the prosecution, the woman was approached aggressively by Meldrum while she was at the gym. Prosecutor Carrie-Anne Mackenzie detailed that around 6:10 pm, the woman was preparing to leave her vehicle when she was suddenly confronted by a loud banging on her car window. The noise was so intense that she feared the window might shatter. Frightened, she looked up to see a figure pointing at her, and upon lowering her window, she recognized Meldrum standing outside.
He then shouted at her in a hostile manner, uttering the words, “get to f***.” This aggressive confrontation was witnessed by another individual who checked on the woman’s welfare immediately afterward, underscoring the seriousness of the incident.
Meldrum, who resides on Main Street, initially dismissed the allegations as “ridiculous” when questioned by police. Despite this, he later admitted to the police that he had engaged in the abusive behavior, including the incident at the gym, and acknowledged other instances of misconduct during their separation, although they continued to live in the same household for some time.
His solicitor, Jim Laverty, explained to Sheriff John Rafferty that there had been no further incidents since December 29, 2022. He argued that Meldrum believed the woman was provoking him by joining a gym so close to his new residence. Laverty pointed out that, even before the alleged provocation in April 2021, the couple had been effectively living separate lives. The gym in question was located just three doors away from Meldrum’s home, which he claimed was a factor in his emotional response.
Laverty also noted that Meldrum had reported the situation to the police and that the incident on December 29 had overwhelmed him. As a result, Meldrum was fined £450 and was placed under an 18-month non-harassment order to prevent further contact or intimidation.
Overall, the court’s decision reflected the seriousness of Meldrum’s actions and the need to protect his former wife from further harassment, emphasizing the importance of respecting boundaries and the law in such personal disputes.
