LEE MARVEL FROM GRIMSBY SENT TO JAIL FOR INDECENT IMAGE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In April 2022, a disturbing incident unfolded involving a young girl from Grimsby and a man named Lee Marvel, aged 26, whose actions have led to his imprisonment. The girl’s parents were left utterly horrified after discovering a graphic, half-naked photograph of Marvel on their 12-year-old daughter’s iPad.
This discovery was made when the parents, while checking their child's device, came across the explicit image, which was accompanied by messages exchanged between Marvel and the young girl.
It was revealed that Lee Marvel, a resident of Rutland Street in Grimsby, had actively sent the indecent photograph of himself to the girl and had engaged in a series of inappropriate messages with her.
The police investigation uncovered that Marvel had been involved in this misconduct in 2019, and he subsequently admitted to sending the explicit image and communicating with the girl.
Prosecutor Richard Thompson stated that Marvel’s actions prompted the girl’s parents to become aware of his involvement after they examined their daughter’s iPad.
During police interviews, Marvel attempted to justify his actions by claiming that his internet account had been hacked.
However, he later changed his story, asserting that the girl had directly asked him for the photograph.
The victim, in her statement to police, expressed the emotional toll the incident had taken on her, revealing that she had experienced stress and difficulties in her relationships with her family members as a result of the ordeal.
In sentencing Marvel, Judge Michael Fanning emphasized the severity of the crime.
He sentenced Marvel to eight months in prison, highlighting the gravity of sending an indecent image of himself to a minor.
The judge remarked, “This is a serious offence, sending indecent images.
It is often the case that such actions are a precursor to attempts to meet someone for sexual purposes.
The aim is to catch individuals taking preparatory steps before any sexual contact occurs.
She was just 12 years old, and you were 24.
You should have known better.” Judge Fanning also condemned Marvel’s attempt to shift blame, noting that he had sent an explicit image of his genitals.
“What you were thinking is beyond any right-thinking individual.
You have caused her significant harm.
You appear to have ruined a young girl’s life.
It is fortunate that this was discovered before it could escalate further, as it could have led to something far more serious.” Furthermore, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, which prohibits Marvel from having any contact with girls.
The order also mandates that his internet searches be accessible to police or rehabilitation authorities to monitor his online activity and prevent future offenses.
