LEE GRIFFIN FROM LOWESTOFT SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN IPSWICH AND SLOUGH
In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals preying on vulnerable minors, Lee Griffin, a 49-year-old man from Raglan Street in Lowestoft, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for a series of heinous child sex offences. The investigation into Griffin’s activities was a collaborative effort between the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) and Suffolk Police, culminating in his conviction and sentencing.
Griffin’s criminal actions came to light after a joint operation led to his arrest on October 4, 2019, in Talbot Avenue, Slough.
Authorities had been monitoring him as part of ongoing investigations into his previous offences.
At the time of his arrest, Griffin was actively attempting to meet a 13-year-old girl for sexual activity, believing he was about to engage in a meeting with a minor.
Instead, he was confronted by SEROCU officers who had set up the operation to catch him in the act.
Further investigations revealed that Griffin had been sending explicit images of himself along with sexual messages to what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
These messages and images were part of a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned several years.
It was also discovered that Griffin was already on bail for prior sexual offences committed in Ipswich in 2017, where he had targeted a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old victim.
During the arrest, authorities found a collection of indecent images of children in his possession, adding to the severity of his charges.
In February of the previous year, Griffin pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to multiple counts, including three charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, five counts of making indecent photographs of a child, two counts of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and one count of attempting to cause a child to view sexual images.
His guilty plea marked a significant step in addressing his disturbing pattern of behavior.
On Monday, January 18, Griffin was formally sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison.
The court also imposed an extended license period of five years, ensuring continued supervision after his release.
Additionally, Griffin was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
As part of the court’s ruling, he was also required to pay a victim surcharge of £120.
These measures aim to protect the community and prevent further offending by Griffin in the future.
