SHERIFF WARNS DOMESTIC ABUSER TO GET THE MESSAGE
The year started badly for one man when he behaved in an abusive manner at his ex-partner's home on New Year's Day.Lee Glen, 40, had consumed a "large quantity" of whisky before directing abuse at his former girlfriend.
Appearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday, Glen, of Ailsa Grove, Kirkcaldy, had previously admitted that on January 1, at a house in Rosyth, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner when he shouted and swore at the woman, locked himself in a room and punched doors repeatedly within the property, damaging them.
Depute fiscal Jamie Roy said the couple had been in a relationship and had a child together but had been separated for two years.
He had been staying over with the family over the holiday period.
He consumed a large amount of whisky and began to pick a fight with his ex.
Solicitor James Moncrieff said his client was "quite heavily" under the influence of alcohol.
He added: "He regrets the incident – he has little memory of it.
He appreciates the incident is not a particularly pleasant one." Sheriff Alastair Brown ordered Glen to do 160 hours of unpaid work within six months and granted a non-harassment order for two years banning him from contacting or attempting to contact his former partner.
He told him: "The public disapproves strongly of domestic abuse and so does this court and you must get the message."
