On October 27, a distressing incident unfolded in Sunderland involving Lee Crute, who was accused of inflicting serious injuries on his partner. The victim, in a state of fear and distress, managed to call emergency services from her bathroom, urgently informing the operator that she believed Crute was intent on killing her. Her frantic call prompted a rapid response from police officers, who arrived at the residence within just five minutes of the call.
Upon arrival, officers found Crute standing at a window, notably naked from the waist down, which added to the tense and unsettling scene. The police, according to prosecutor Kate Barnes, had to force their way into the property after Crute claimed he could not locate his key. Inside, the officers discovered a disturbing scene of violence. A blood-stained wrench was found among the debris, and blood was visible on a bedroom pillow, the headboard of the bed, the living room floor, a chair, and even on the wall. Items of clothing stained with blood were also recovered, indicating a brutal assault.
The court was informed that the victim had sustained visible injuries, including bruising to her face and head, as well as a laceration on the front of her scalp. Despite her injuries, she did not support the prosecution's case, which added a layer of complexity to the proceedings. Crute was taken into custody and questioned by police.
