A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for child sex offences that involved using his gaming account to communicate with girls under the age of 16. Lee Bergstrom, 35, of Nipsells Chase in Chelmsford, Essex, was arrested at his home and subsequently charged with attempting to cause or incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, as well as attempting sexual communications with a minor.

After pleading guilty to all charges at Chelmsford Crown Court on 16 December, Bergstrom received a six-year prison term on 10 January. He was also charged with attempting to breach a sexual harm prevention order.

As part of his sentence, Bergstrom has been placed on the sex offenders' register for life, and his gaming console was confiscated. Det Ch Insp Michael Pannell of Essex Police stated: "I want to reassure the community that we continue to work hard to bring more people like him to justice. I am pleased to see that Bergstrom has been jailed for his crimes. He not only showed a flagrant disregard for his order, but was actively committing new offences and targeting vulnerable children."
