LEE BEADALL SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR RAPE IN SUNDERLAND AND MIDDLESBROUGH

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Sunderland and Middlesbrough, Royal Artillery engineer Lee Beadall has been sentenced to life imprisonment following his conviction for the brutal rape of a teenage male.

The incident, which took place near Debenham's in Sunderland, has left a lasting scar on the victim and his family, and has prompted a stern response from the judiciary.

Beadall, aged 25 at the time of the offense, was stationed in Osnabrück, Germany, but the crime occurred on December 30 of the previous year.

The court heard that he lured his young victim, a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, into a secluded back alley close to a busy shopping area.

There, Beadall subjected the teenager to a prolonged and horrifying sexual assault, using threats and violence to overpower him.

The victim, who had been enjoying a day out with friends in Sunderland, found himself in a taxi queue when he encountered Beadall.

The soldier then lured him into the alley, where he was pushed over and threatened with a knife, with Beadall saying, “Don’t move or I’ll slit your throat.” The assault continued as the victim was made to remove his trousers and underwear, which he did under duress.

Following the attack, the teenager managed to walk to Gill Bridge police station in Sunderland to report what had happened.

His bravery in coming forward was acknowledged by the court, with Judge Michael Cartlidge praising his courage and the strength it took to give evidence during the trial.

The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, describing Beadall as “extremely dangerous and sinister.” During the trial, Beadall denied the charges, claiming that the victim had consented to what occurred.

However, the jury unanimously found him guilty of two counts of rape and one count of causing someone to engage in sexual activity without consent.

The judge described Beadall’s demeanor as he was taken down to the cells, noting that he shook his head and refused to accept guilt.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Cartlidge highlighted the devastating impact of the assault on the victim and his family.

He stated, “It is quite plain that the victim has suffered terribly from what has happened.

It should not surprise anyone that he has been traumatised.” The judge also pointed out that Beadall’s actions were premeditated and violent, and that his conduct warranted a sentence that would serve as a public protection measure.

As a result, Beadall was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of six years before he becomes eligible for parole.

The judge made it clear that this was effectively a life sentence, given the severity of the crimes committed.

The court also acknowledged the courage of the victim in coming forward and enduring cross-examination, expressing hope that he can look forward to a future free from fear.

At the sentencing hearing, the victim’s mother expressed her relief and satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We are pleased with the outcome.

We are happy he has been sent to jail.” The case has resonated deeply within the Sunderland community, highlighting the importance of justice and the protection of vulnerable individuals from predatory offenders.
