UPPER BRYNAMMAN MAN ASSAULTED PARTNER DURING ARGUMENT
A MAN drunk three bottles of wine before shoving his partner during an explosive argument which caused a concerned member of the public to call the police.Prosecutor Alexandra Wilson said Lazlo Landek had been in an on-off relationship with his partner for around six years.
The pair spent the day together on August 30, and started drinking at her home in Gwaun Cae Gurwen that evening.
Ms Wilson said Landek began “drinking excessively” and polished off three bottles of wine.
An argument then erupted about the defendant’s ex-girlfriend, and Landek snatched away his partner’s phone.
He refused to give her phone back, and when she reached towards his shorts pocket, he pushed her in the chest – almost causing her to fall into a marble fireplace.
The victim tried to leave, but Landek blocked the door and said: ‘You’re not going anywhere’.
She again asked for her phone back, but the defendant replied: ‘You can get f***ed’.
Police arrived at the address and Landek told his partner to stay quiet.
She started walking towards the door, and he made a gesture moving his finger across his throat.
Despite this, she answered the door, and Landek was arrested.
The 36-year-old defendant, of Arfryn in Upper Brynamman, pleaded guilty to assault by beating.
In a statement read to the court by Ms Wilson, the victim said she had been left “on edge all the time” since the incident.
“It makes me think what he would have done to me if the police did not come when they did,” she said.
Cardiff Crown Court heard Landek had 13 previous convictions for 22 offences, including five for offences against a person.
He was subject to a suspended sentence at the time of these offences, after he was sentenced to six months, suspended for 18 months, for affray at Swansea Crown Court on December 17 last year.
On that occasion, Landek got into a heated argument with his cousin September 14 last year.
He left the property, but soon returned with a metal bar and began chasing his cousin around with it.
Dan Griffiths, for Landek, said: “The excessive consumption of alcohol continues to be a problem for him.” He said the defendant had accepted his guilt and did not oppose the application for a restraining order.
He added that no injuries were caused during the incident.
Mr Griffiths said Landek’s response to the requirements of his suspended sentence had been “broadly positive”.
Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke jailed Landek for two weeks, and activated four months of his suspended sentence – running consecutively.
Landek was also made the subject of a five-year restraining order.
