BURNTISLAND MAN LAURIE CANDLISH ADMITS TO ILLEGAL IMAGES OF YOUNG GIRLS IN FIFE
In a case that has shocked the community of Burntisland in Fife, Laurie Candlish, aged 32, has confessed to possessing a disturbing collection of indecent images depicting young girls. The police investigation was initiated after authorities traced illegal digital content to his residence on Piper Crescent.
During a search of Candlish’s home, officers discovered a troubling cache of material stored on his computer.
The files included a total of 2,344 images and 42 videos, all featuring girls aged between five and 14.
These images and videos depicted the young girls in various states of undress and engaged in sexual activities with adult males, highlighting the severity of the material found.
The police action was prompted by intelligence indicating that an electronic device associated with the IP address registered to Candlish’s address had accessed and stored indecent images.
This led to a detailed search of his property, where the disturbing content was uncovered.
At a subsequent hearing, depute fiscal Dev Kapadia outlined the details of the case, revealing that Candlish had admitted during police interviews to having an unhealthy attraction to girls aged between 10 and 14.
He acknowledged that this attraction had persisted since his teenage years, indicating a long-standing issue.
Mr.
Kapadia further explained that Candlish recognized he had a problem but admitted he felt he had no one to confide in about his concerns, which may have contributed to his continued possession of such material.
It was also established that, between January 1, 2009, and November 5, 2013, Candlish either took or allowed the taking of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children at his residence in Piper Crescent, Burntisland.
This period marks the timeframe during which the illegal content was accumulated and stored.
In light of the evidence, Sheriff Grant McCulloch ordered that Candlish be registered as a sex offender for an unspecified period, with the exact duration to be determined at sentencing.
The sheriff also deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of criminal justice social work reports and released Candlish on bail pending further proceedings.
