LAURENCE LEAVY OF CHESHIRE SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ABUSE AND RAPE CASES
A man known for his violent and manipulative behaviour, Laurence Patrick Leavy, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious crimes involving two women in Cheshire. The case, which has shocked the local community, was brought to the attention of Cheshire Police in May 2021, following reports from one of the victims about the abuse she endured at the hands of Leavy.
Laurence Leavy, who resides on Cledford Lane in Middlewich, appeared before Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, December 19.
The court heard how Leavy was initially charming when he first met the women, but this façade quickly dissolved as he began to exhibit controlling and abusive behaviour.
Over time, he subjected both women to a series of degrading and violent acts, including verbal belittlement, physical assaults, and sexual violence.< The first victim recounted how Leavy’s demeanour changed dramatically after their initial meeting.
She described how he would frequently belittle her verbally and physically assault her.
One particularly harrowing incident involved Leavy losing his temper while they were in a car.
He pulled over abruptly, dragged her out of the vehicle, and threw her into a nearby field before driving away, leaving her stranded and vulnerable.
This victim was coerced into engaging in sexual acts without her consent and was raped multiple times during their relationship.
When she reported these incidents to the police, officers sought to identify other potential witnesses.
This led to the second woman coming forward, who also accused Leavy of abuse.
She described being subjected to verbal abuse that made her feel insecure and intimidated.
Leavy’s controlling behaviour extended to financial abuse, as he refused to work and caused her significant financial hardship.
The second victim revealed that Leavy forced her into sex on demand and had assaulted and raped her on numerous occasions, including while she was pregnant.
Following these allegations, Leavy was formally charged in December 2022.
His trial concluded on December 13, with a jury finding him guilty of multiple counts of rape and controlling and coercive behaviour.
On Tuesday, the court sentenced him to 18 years in prison, with an additional six years on extended licence.
Furthermore, Leavy was handed lifetime restraining orders to protect the victims from further contact and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
This case highlights the severity of Leavy’s crimes and the impact on the victims’ lives.
The sentences reflect the gravity of his actions and serve as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing domestic abuse and sexual violence within communities like Cheshire.
