FIFE WOMAN LAURA MCARTHUR SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE IN FIFE

A woman from Fife, Laura McArthur, has been sentenced to over a year in prison after a series of violent and abusive acts directed towards her former partner.

The disturbing details of her conduct, which spanned several months, were revealed during her court appearance at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

McArthur, aged 26, was found guilty of engaging in a sustained campaign of domestic abuse that included physical violence, verbal threats, and aggressive behavior.

The court heard that she had assaulted her partner with a wine bottle, inflicted multiple bite marks and bruises across his body, and attempted to gouge his eyes out in a particularly frightening episode.

Her actions were described as part of a “toxic” relationship that lasted approximately six months.

Judge Charles Macnair QC sentenced McArthur to 16 months in custody and imposed a five-year non-harassment order to safeguard her victim from further contact.

The judge emphasized the severity of her actions, stating, “You committed domestic abuse by engaging in a course of abusive behaviour over a period of about six months towards your former partner.

Domestic abuse can have a devastating effect on the victim and is rightly considered as a very serious offence.” He also noted McArthur’s prior record, which included previous incidents of violence and domestic offending, and concluded that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate response given the circumstances.

Throughout the court proceedings, it was revealed that McArthur verbally abused her partner, issued threats to have others attack him, and demanded money be sent to her prison account while she was remanded in custody for unrelated matters.

The court heard that her abusive behavior was not limited to physical violence but also included psychological torment.

According to the prosecution, the relationship began in June of the previous year, initially appearing to be a happy one.

However, the situation quickly deteriorated, with her partner later describing the abuse as so frequent that the dates blurred together.

McArthur pleaded guilty to engaging in a course of abusive behavior, which took place between June 1, 2021, and January 22, 2022, at addresses in High Valleyfield and Dalgety Bay.

Witnesses recounted hearing McArthur verbally abusing her partner over the phone, with one of his sisters overhearing her shouting and crying during a call.

On another occasion, while traveling to Liverpool with a friend, the victim received threatening calls from McArthur, who threatened to smash his windows and said she would have others physically assault him.

Friends of the victim also reported seeing McArthur screaming at him and making him cry regularly.

A friend of McArthur’s witnessed her on Facetime attacking her partner, attempting to gouge his face, and heard her shouting at him to kill himself.

The victim was often found covered in bruises, which was confirmed by photographs taken after his arrest.

In December, both McArthur and her then-boyfriend were detained following a disturbance at his Dalgety Bay residence.

The victim later reported that she had jumped at him, tried to gouge his eyes out, and punched him.

During the altercation, he managed to hold her wrists to prevent her from hitting him, but she responded by biting him all over his body.

The victim initially hesitated to report the incident to police, fearing repercussions and wanting to reconcile.

Further incidents included McArthur calling her partner at his workplace, where colleagues overheard her shouting and screaming at him, leaving him visibly upset and crying.

She also reportedly punched him in the face on multiple occasions and would sometimes wake up to find her punching him.

In January, the situation escalated again when McArthur and her friend returned to her friend’s home, where their partners had been drinking while watching football.

An argument ensued, during which McArthur spat in her partner’s face, punched him, and then struck him with an empty bottle of Barefoot rosé wine.

She continued her assault by punching and biting him repeatedly.

When police arrived, she was crying, and her partner was found with blood on his nose, bite marks, scratches, and bruises across his body.

The officers observed the injuries and subsequently arrested McArthur, who was taken into custody for her role in the violence.

Authorities conducted thorough investigations, which confirmed the extent of her physical abuse and psychological torment inflicted upon her partner.

The court’s ruling reflects the seriousness of her actions and the need to protect victims of domestic violence in the Fife area.
