TEEN FLASHER SENTENCED AFTER LEWD STANDOFF IN MACCLESFIELD
Kyron Joseph Surtees, aged 19, followed his victim and repeatedly pulled down his trousers, a court was told.He pleaded guilty to indecent exposure at Macclesfield magistrates’ court and was given a community order that includes supervision and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for five years.
The court heard that on June 4 at 9am, a woman walking along Commercial Road saw Surtees acting oddly.
Prosecutor Debbie Byrne described the incident: “The witness observed a woman walking with a male behind her.
When they were about five meters apart, she noticed the male pull his jogging bottoms down to below his knees.
She saw he was wearing thong-style women’s underwear.
She was shocked.
He made eye contact with her but did not speak.
Concerned for the lone female, she watched as the defendant followed her toward the underpass, only a foot behind her, pulling down his clothes.” The woman then went to work and contacted the police.
Later that day, around 10am, officers responded to a shop in Macclesfield town center following reports of a suspicious man.
Mrs Byrne stated: “The defendant was stopped by police carrying a Marks and Spencers bag containing several pairs of women’s thong-style underwear in various colors.
During a search, he was found wearing a green thong.” During questioning, Surtees explained to officers that he did it “to escape his own head,” calling his actions “a release valve.” He claimed it was “funny,” not driven by sexual desire.
Toby Wilbraham, representing Surtees, said his client had argued with his father the night before, hadn’t slept, and had consumed a bottle of vodka.
He explained: “All these factors combined led to an explosion, a volcano in his head.
To say he is extremely ashamed and embarrassed is a gross understatement.” Magistrate Tony Bostock concluded: “You are deeply ashamed, and rightfully so.”
