Lostock Hall Child Sexual Abuser
In February 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Kyle Sedgwick, also known as Keelon Sedgwick, a 22-year-old resident of Pages Court in Lostock Hall, Preston. Sedgwick was convicted of heinous crimes including the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl, which took place after he lured her to his flat through social media interactions. This case highlights the dangers posed by online predators and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable minors.

According to court proceedings, Sedgwick was already under a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) issued by Bolton Crown Court in 2019, which was a result of previous convictions involving indecent images of children. Despite this legal restriction, he continued to engage in criminal activities, with the latest offenses dating back to June 2020. During this period, Sedgwick encouraged the young girl to visit him at his residence in Lostock Hall, Preston.

The prosecution, led by Barbara Webster, detailed how the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, initially told her grandparents she was visiting a female friend. She was dropped off at an address in Preston, where she was directed to Sedgwick’s bedroom. Sedgwick claimed he was too tired and wanted to lie down, which was a pretext that led to further abuse. The girl’s mother was scheduled to pick her up at 8 pm that evening.

During their interaction, Sedgwick began asking the girl intrusive questions about her sexual experience and whether she was on the contraceptive pill. The girl, only 13 years old, responded that she was young and inexperienced. Sedgwick then instructed her not to tell anyone about what was happening. He proceeded to remove her clothing and engaged in sexual activity with her, an act that has caused lasting trauma.

When the girl was collected by her mother, her distressed state was evident. She was observed to be biting her nails and withdrawn. The following day, her behavior remained reclusive, prompting her grandmother to become concerned. The grandmother visited Sedgwick’s address, where she confronted him and recorded the encounter. During this confrontation, Sedgwick initially denied knowing the girl but eventually admitted to having had sex with her.

The girl’s family reported Sedgwick to the police, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges. Sedgwick pleaded guilty to four counts: sexual activity with a child, distribution and possession of indecent images, and breaching his SHPO by accessing electronic devices. The victim’s statement to the court revealed the profound impact of the abuse; she described suffering from sleepless nights, anxiety about her reputation, and the breakdown of her relationship with her family. She also disclosed that she had to leave her school due to malicious gossip from peers and their parents, which exacerbated her emotional distress.

Her grandfather expressed feelings of guilt, revealing that he had driven her to the location where she was assaulted, a decision that haunts him. The court also learned that Sedgwick had created a Cloud account where he stored and shared hundreds of vile images—specifically 449—depicting children as young as three months old being abused. This evidence underscored the severity of his offending.

Judge Philip Parry sentenced Sedgwick to seven years in prison. Additionally, he ordered Sedgwick to register as a sex offender indefinitely and imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order to restrict his future activities. The case underscores the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Sedgwick and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
