KYLE SPIRES FROM PETERBOROUGH SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES AND UPSKIRTING AT CAMBRIDGE CROWN COURT
In a disturbing series of events that have shocked the local community, Kyle Spires, a 36-year-old man with ties to Peterborough, has been convicted and sentenced for a range of serious sexual offences, including upskirting, possession of extreme pornography, and other related crimes. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat such heinous acts and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
According to reports from Cambridgeshire Police, Spires, who was previously incarcerated for similar offences, continued his criminal activities while awaiting sentencing for his earlier crimes.
His initial conviction in December 2023 involved charges of making indecent photographs of a child and voyeurism, which resulted in a 28-month prison term.
However, during this period, further evidence emerged that implicated him in additional offences, leading to a new, more severe sentence.
The police revealed that Spires had been involved in uploading indecent images of children to the internet.
His mobile phone was confiscated in October 2023 following a tip-off that he was sharing such material online.
An investigation uncovered that his device contained 15 videos of upskirting involving ten different victims, filmed between February and July 2023.
These offences occurred while Spires was working as a delivery driver, a role that seemingly provided opportunities for him to commit these acts unnoticed.
Alarmingly, investigators noted that eight of the victims in these videos had not been identified, raising concerns about the extent of his offending and the potential for further victims.
The phone also held 64 videos classified as Category A, the most severe classification for indecent images, along with 25 videos of extreme pornography involving animals.
Despite initially denying any criminal activity, Spires eventually pleaded guilty to the charges.
At Cambridge Crown Court, Judge Philip Grey sentenced Spires to an additional two years in prison, which will be served consecutively on top of his previous 28-month sentence.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of Spires' actions, describing his conduct as both criminal and deeply troubling.
During the sentencing, a victim impact statement was read, revealing the profound emotional distress experienced by one of the women targeted in the upskirting videos.
The victim expressed her anger and frustration, stating she was deeply disturbed and had lost trust in men she did not know.
Detective Constable Matthew Walshe, who led the investigation, commented on the case, highlighting that Spires committed these offences while on bail and after being previously arrested for similar crimes in 2022.
His continued offending despite being under legal restrictions underscores the danger he poses to the community.
In addition to his prison sentence, Spires will remain on the sex offenders register for ten years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offending.
The police and judicial authorities have made it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated and are committed to ensuring justice for the victims and the community at large.
