PETERBOROUGH MAN JAILED FOR ABUSE AND COERCIVE CONTROL IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASE
Kyle Helm, aged 21, was convicted for a series of violent and coercive acts against Nicole Clarges, 22, from Peterborough. The incident involved Helm manipulating Nicole, isolating her from her friends and family, which she describes as reminiscent of slavery.
Nicole recounted, "Kyle was manipulative from the start.
He isolated me from my friends and family and eventually made me feel worthless." During one heartbreaking attack, Helm stabbed her in the knee with a screwdriver.
Nicole was only able to seek help after a good Samaritan found her bruised body on the street.
The police were called, and Helm was arrested.
He faced multiple charges, including four counts of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) and coercive and controlling behaviour, leading to a four-year prison sentence with an additional year on extended license.
Helm admitted to the charges in court.
Nicole later shared her story to raise awareness of domestic violence and emphasized the importance of seeking help.
She described how Helm's abuse extended over years, involving physical attacks, threats, and control, such as giving her just £10 monthly, preventing her from speaking to others, and forcing her to beg on the streets.
Nicole expressed her gratitude to a Good Samaritan who helped her escape and hoped her story can inspire others to seek assistance in abusive relationships.
