GREENOCK MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ATTACKING EX-PARTNER AND BREAKING HER NOSE
A GREENOCK man 'burst' open his ex-partner's nose in a shocking assault sparked by an argument over money. The town's sheriff court heard that Kyle Campbell had demanded money from the woman and tried to grab her phone from her during the course of the row.
The 28-year-old will find out his fate later this month after pleading guilty to a charge of assaulting the woman to her injury.
Campbell admitted carrying out the assault at an address in the town's Bunston Grove in October 2023.
Greenock Sheriff Court was told Campbell and the woman got into an argument at around 4pm on the date in question.
Fiscal depute Karen Yuill told the court: “At this time, the accused made attempts to grab a mobile phone from the witness, eventually taking her to the ground.
“While on the ground, he punched the witness, causing her nose to burst and to begin to bleed.” The incident was reported to police, who attended at the property and observed the woman to be upset and saw blood coming from her nose.
The court heard that the women declined medical attention.
Officers traced Campbell and arrested him shortly before 8pm on the same day.
He was taken to Greenock police station, where, the court was told, he made no reply when he was formally cautioned and charged by officers.
Sheriff James Varney opted to defer Campbell’s sentencing until May 21 and called for a background report to be prepared by a social worker ahead of the next hearing.
Defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher said he would reserve his plea in mitigation until then.
Sheriff Varney told Campbell: “You appear as a first domestic offender.
“You certainly cannot go about punching people.
It’s absolutely unacceptable that it’s someone you previously had a relationship with.” Sheriff Varney also mentioned a previous charge of threatening and abusive behavior towards the woman, which was accepted as a not guilty plea by the Crown.
Sheriff James Varney emphasized that Campbell, of Broomhill Street, had committed a domestic assault and that such behavior is unacceptable, especially towards someone with whom he previously had a relationship.
