KRZYSZTOF ZALEWSKI ON THE RUN FROM LEICESTER SEX OFFENDER ALERT
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Leicester, authorities are actively searching internationally for Krzysztof Zalewski, a convicted sex offender who has vanished before serving his full sentence.The investigation was sparked after Zalewski, a 31-year-old man originally from Poland, was found guilty of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl but failed to appear at his sentencing hearing, prompting a nationwide and international manhunt.
Detectives from Leicestershire Police have released a clear photograph of Zalewski, urging the public to assist in locating him.
The authorities have also notified Interpol and other police agencies across the United Kingdom about his status as a wanted individual.
Zalewski, who was previously residing on Lakin Drive in Thorpe Astley, disappeared before his trial concluded, despite being convicted of five out of six counts related to unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Following his conviction, Zalewski was sentenced to seven years in prison and was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register for life.
The jury, which deliberated over the case, was not informed of his absence during the trial, leaving many questions unanswered about his motives and whereabouts.
The police have indicated that Zalewski might still be within the UK, although there is also a possibility that he has fled abroad to evade capture.
Detective Sergeant Mark Sinski, a member of the serious crime team at Leicestershire Police, provided an update on the ongoing efforts to locate Zalewski.
He stated, “We have conducted a number of lines of inquiry with other agencies in an attempt to locate Zalewski’s whereabouts but to date these have all proved negative.
There is some suggestion that he may be abroad, but we have no evidence to support this at this time.” He further explained that Zalewski’s details have been entered into the Police National Computer, which is accessible to all police forces across the country, and that investigations are continuing.
The police are appealing to anyone who recognizes the man in the photograph or who has any relevant information about his current location to come forward and assist with the case.
During the two-day trial, the court heard disturbing details of Zalewski’s actions.
The prosecution, led by James House, revealed that Zalewski sexually abused the young girl on two separate occasions.
It was reported that the defendant was alone with the girl in a room when he committed the first sexual act in September of the previous year.
The victim later confided in a friend via text message, revealing that she had lost her virginity to an older man and describing the incident.
Following the abuse, Zalewski sent her messages instructing her to keep their encounters a secret and even suggested they meet again for sex.
The court also heard that Zalewski sexually assaulted the girl on a second occasion.
When questioned by police after his arrest, Zalewski claimed he believed the girl was 16 years old, asserting that she looked and acted older, and he accused her of seducing him.
However, the girl testified that Zalewski was fully aware of her age at the time of the abuse.
As a result of the assault, the young girl was left feeling “used and angry,” highlighting the profound impact of Zalewski’s actions on her life.
The case has raised serious concerns about the safety of minors and the effectiveness of monitoring convicted offenders, especially those who go into hiding after their conviction.
Authorities continue to pursue all leads in the hope of apprehending Zalewski and bringing him to justice.
