KRISTIAN THOMPSON'S SHOCKING ESCAPE FROM STOCKTON: LIVED IN A TENT FOR TEN WEEKS AFTER FLEEING HIS HOME

In April 2022, Kristian Thompson, a convicted sex offender from Stockton, made headlines for his dramatic attempt to evade law enforcement and the community by living in a tent for an extended period of ten weeks.

After fleeing his Stockton residence, Thompson chose to live rough, claiming he was driven by fear and a desire to escape threats from individuals who had learned of his criminal past.

According to reports from Teesside Crown Court, Thompson’s decision to leave Stockton was also influenced by a series of personal struggles and mental health issues.

He reportedly left his home on his toes, trying to avoid detection, and spent the winter months sleeping outdoors in the Midlands region from December of the previous year until early February.

It was only after this period of homelessness that he decided to return to Teesside and voluntarily surrender himself to authorities.

Thompson, now 31 years old, has a criminal record that includes a conviction for exposure in April 2017.

As part of his sentence, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of seven years.

His past convictions also include a violent incident in Saltburn, where he threatened to urinate on a young woman and subsequently assaulted two of her friends.

Thompson pleaded guilty to three counts of assault and admitted to exposing himself during that incident.

His legal troubles did not end there.

In May of the previous year, Thompson was found to have breached the conditions of his notification order.

He had disappeared from his registered address in Stockton after becoming abusive towards support workers.

Prosecutor Sam Faulks explained that Thompson had told a woman to “f*** off” and was aggressive because she did not knock before entering his residence.

Further investigation revealed that Thompson had brought a female visitor into his home, which was prohibited under his conditions.

When authorities checked his address, he was not present, and his tenancy was subsequently terminated at the end of November.

Despite this, Thompson failed to register a new address within the required three-day window, during which he was actively avoiding detection.

Throughout his criminal history, Thompson has accumulated 16 convictions for a total of 33 offences.

However, only one of these convictions pertains to a sexual offence, which was for exposure in 2017.

His repeated breaches of legal conditions and his attempts to evade authorities have raised significant concerns among law enforcement officials and the community.

During his court appearance, Thompson pleaded guilty to breaching the terms of his notification order.

Recorder Simon Eckersley sentenced him to eight months in custody, suspended for two years.

The judge emphasized the importance of notification orders, stating, “You were the subject of aggression by a number of males and you left the address with the purpose of ending your life due to your mental health.

You need to be aware that notification orders are important and their purpose is to protect the public – you need to notify the authorities about changes in your circumstances.” In addition to his suspended sentence, Thompson was ordered to participate in rehabilitation activities and to undergo an alcohol treatment program, aiming to address underlying issues and prevent further breaches of the law.
