LONDON MAN HANDED INDEFINITE HOSPITAL ORDER FOR GRANDMOTHER MURDER
Kordian Filmanowicz, aged 21 and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, carried out a savage assault on his grandmother, Ilona Czuper, in Mitcham, London.During the incident, he gouged her eyes and fractured her skull using a paving slab at her home.
The attack took place two months after his release from psychiatric care.
Court proceedings revealed that Filmanowicz stabbed and slashed the 62-year-old woman over 60 times on July 6, 2017.
He also killed the family cat and dog by crushing their heads before walking away from the scene in a calm manner.
In the trial at the Old Bailey, he pled guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
A judge described his actions as 'frenzied and vicious' and ordered that he remain detained in a secure mental health facility for an indefinite period.
The victim’s family was profoundly affected by his mental illness; his mother, Marta, stated that the family had been 'destroyed' by his condition but insisted she 'did not give birth to a murderer.' It was also revealed that after moving to the UK from Poland in 2016, Filmanowicz developed obsessions with demons and believed himself to be Jesus.
Prosecutors stated that he thought 'eyes represented the demons of those behind them.' His psychiatric history includes a six-month stay in a mental health hospital, during which he threatened staff and was later discharged on medication following some improvement.
The judge expressed doubt that the defendant would be fit for release in less than ten years.
