KIRBY CHADWICK PONTEFRACT SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED AFTER TERRIFYING ATTACK NEAR WATER PARK

In October 2014, a disturbing incident unfolded in Pontefract involving a young woman and a known sex offender, Kirby Chadwick. The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was subjected to a harrowing sexual assault after Chadwick used deceptive tactics to lure her into a secluded woodland area near Hemsworth Water Park.

Chadwick, aged 18 and residing on Monkhill Lane in Pontefract, had a troubling criminal history, including previous convictions related to sex offences. Despite this, he continued to pose a significant threat to the community. His latest actions led to a severe legal response, with a judge condemning his continued danger to the public.

The court heard that Chadwick had managed to obtain the victim’s mobile phone number through unknown means and began sending her anonymous text messages. Initially, the girl believed these messages were from a friend playing a prank, which led her to meet Chadwick at Hemsworth Water Park. Unaware of his true intentions, she followed his instructions and arrived at the designated meeting spot.

Once there, Chadwick attacked her violently. He forcibly dragged her into a nearby wooded area, where he threatened her with a stick, warning that he would harm her if she did not comply. The assault escalated as he forced her to undress, and he carried out a prolonged sexual attack while the girl desperately pleaded for him to stop. During the assault, Chadwick ominously told her, “Be quiet or I will kill you,” heightening the terror of the ordeal.

The assault only ended when the girl managed to spot two men nearby and ran to seek help. Her bravery in escaping and reporting the incident was acknowledged by authorities, who praised her courage in coming forward despite the trauma she endured.

In court, Paul Fleming, representing Chadwick, stated that his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, which was taken into account during sentencing. The court was informed that Chadwick’s criminal record was extensive, including previous sex attacks on both a boy and a girl, underscoring his pattern of predatory behaviour.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC described the attack as clearly planned, noting that Chadwick had lured the girl with a false name before immediately assaulting her. The judge emphasized the terrifying and sustained nature of the attack, condemning Chadwick’s actions as deeply harmful.

Following the sentencing, Acting Detective Sergeant Rachel Darling expressed her appreciation for the victim’s bravery. She stated, “I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case who was prepared to come forward and say what had happened during what was a horrific ordeal for her.”
