KIERAN WILKS FROM GLASGOW INVOLVED IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SCANDAL AT PRIMARY SCHOOL
In August 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Kieran Wilks, a resident of Glasgow, who found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation related to child exploitation.Wilks, a 22-year-old support assistant working at a primary school in Glasgow's south side, was accused of possessing a highly inappropriate and illegal image involving a young boy.
The incident came to light when police uncovered the image on his mobile phone during an investigation at his home in the Castlemilk area in 2019.
According to court records, the photograph depicted a child estimated to be between four and eight years old engaged in a sexual act.
Wilks, who also volunteered at a youth complex and was a member of a group dedicated to protecting vulnerable children, was initially charged after the police attended his residence to conduct inquiries.
During the search, Wilks handed over his mobile device, which was later found to contain the illicit image.
The police confirmed that the image was created in September 2019 and had been stored in the deleted folder of the phone, originating from the Snapchat application.
Wilks admitted to possessing the image during a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court in July.
The court heard that he was living with his mother and older brother at the time of the offence.
His role as a support assistant involved after-school social care, and he was also a child member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups, which added to the gravity of the case.
During the proceedings, Wilks' legal representation revealed that there had been a change of lawyers following a breakdown in his previous legal relationship.
His new defense attorney, John Kilcoyne, stated that Wilks maintained his innocence and that the paperwork from his former legal team was not available.
Sheriff Diana McConnell inquired whether Wilks would be withdrawing his guilty plea, to which Kilcoyne responded that it was possible but that no formal documents or expert reports had been provided to confirm this.
As a result of the charges, Wilks was placed on the sex offenders register.
The sentencing was postponed to a later date, with the court further deferring the case until next month to allow for additional legal proceedings and review.
The case continues to draw attention due to the serious nature of the allegations and the involvement of a person working in a position of trust within the community.
