KIERAN WHITING AND HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IN OXFORD
A young girl from Oxford who was exploited and sexually abused by a predatory paedophile during her childhood has openly described her torment as being akin to living with a 'monster under the bed.' This disturbing case highlights the sinister actions of Kieran Whiting, a 38-year-old man whose grooming and sexual misconduct towards the girl began while she was still in primary school.According to court proceedings, Whiting initiated his abusive behavior by coercing the young victim with promises of buying her confectionery from local shops and telling her that he would be 'done in a minute.' His manipulative tactics included posing for photographs with her on his mobile device, capturing images while in sexually compromising positions, and engaging in explicit acts in her presence.
The court heard that his sexual abuse paused when he moved to Yorkshire for approximately a year, providing some temporary reprieve for the victim.
However, Whiting returned to Oxford roughly twelve months later, resuming his abusive conduct with a final molestation.
During this last encounter, he cruelly remarked to the now-teenage girl, ‘this is how you lose friends,’ as she desperately pleaded with him to cease his actions.
His return to abuse marked a heartbreaking breach of trust and intensified the trauma experienced by the girl.
The abuse only came to light when the girl confided in a friend.
Her mother was subsequently informed, leading her to contact the police.
During the trial, a victim personal statement was read aloud by prosecutor Lauren Sales to Judge Nigel Daly.
In this statement, the girl recounted her experience after seeing a social media video about a ‘monster under the bed,’ which she felt symbolized her own abuser.
Describing Whiting as her ‘monster,’ she expressed her horror at how he repeatedly returned to her life, making her feel trapped in a cycle of abuse.
She also shared her fears that if she hadn’t spoken out, the abuse might have escalated to rape.
The trauma inflicted left lasting scars, and she disclosed that she had encountered significant mental health struggles as a result, including a suicide attempt.
Her painful journey underscores the devastating long-term effects that such abuse can have on victims.
Kieran Whiting, who resided at Champion Way in Oxford, was convicted in January of multiple serious offenses, including assaulting a child under the age of 13 by penetration, causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and inciting a child to participate in sexual acts.
Notably, he had no prior criminal record.
In sentencing, Judge Daly sentenced Whiting to a substantial 16 years in prison and imposed an extended four-year licence period.
The judge referenced a pre-sentence report prepared by a probation officer, which depicted Whiting as ‘utterly remorseless’ and lacking regard for both legal and moral considerations in his pursuit of sexual gratification.
The probation officer also highlighted that preventing Whiting from reoffending would be a complex task, emphasizing his high risk of causing further harm to children in the future.
Judge Daly expressed agreement with these findings, condemning Whiting’s actions as a betrayal of the young girl’s trust and a direct violation driven by his deviant sexual interests.
He pointed out that elements of humiliation and degradation were present in the abuse, and stated there was little to no mitigation evident in Whiting’s case.
Furthermore, a statement from the police officer overseeing the investigation revealed that while awaiting trial, Whiting had begun relationships with three different women—each single mothers with young daughters—none of whom were aware of his criminal charges until police contacted them.
In addition to his prison sentence, Whiting was issued with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim or her mother.
He will also remain on the sex offender register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his dangerous behavior.
