KIERAN SLATER SENTENCED TO 2.5 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEX OFFENCES IN STAFFORDSHIRE
Kieran Slater, a 26-year-old sex offender from Staffordshire, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison following a series of violations related to his previous convictions. His recent incarceration comes just weeks after he was released from court on a different case, highlighting a troubling pattern of non-compliance and continued criminal behavior.
The sequence of events leading to his latest imprisonment was detailed at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where it was revealed that Slater had previously received a suspended sentence on August 30.
This sentence was handed down after he admitted to charges involving the downloading and distribution of indecent images of children.
At that time, he was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, a legal measure intended to restrict his activities and prevent further offenses.
Despite the court's restrictions, Slater breached the order by installing the social media app Snapchat and failing to disclose his username to authorities, actions that prompted further investigation.
During a police search, officers discovered a mobile phone hidden beneath his pillow.
The device contained numerous indecent images of children, which was a significant violation of the court's orders.
In his police interview, Slater claimed that he was unaware of the phone's presence, asserting that he had not changed his bedsheets in over a year and therefore did not realize the device was under his pillow.
This explanation was met with skepticism by the court, given the circumstances.
Legal representatives for Slater, led by Anis Ali, argued that the sexual harm prevention order was still relatively new and that their client had resigned himself to the possibility of a custodial sentence.
Ali described Slater as 'relatively immature,' suggesting that his actions were influenced by his developmental state.
Slater, who resides on Hallfield Grove in Tunstall, Staffordshire, faced multiple charges including making indecent images of children, failing to comply with notification requirements under the sex offenders register, and breaching the sexual harm prevention order on three separate occasions.
He was also found to be in violation of the earlier suspended sentence.
During sentencing, Judge Graeme Smith expressed disappointment at Slater's repeated breaches, noting, 'It is very disappointing to see you back in front of me a couple of months after I sentenced you.
It is clear that the police had given you very clear instructions and you decided to go outside the instructions.' The judge emphasized that Slater would remain on the sex offenders register and be subject to the sexual harm prevention order for the next ten years, underscoring the seriousness of his violations and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
