EX-TEESPORT WORKER JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND THREATS AGAINST PREGNANT PARTNER
An ex-Teesport worker strangled his pregnant partner, bit her face and blacked her eyes in a series of horrific attacks. The court was told that Kieran Kelly, of Hemlington, left his partner living in fear after attacking her on three separate occasions.
The first incident occurred in November last year when she was alone at home with two small children.
During that attack, Kelly slapped the woman and grabbed her around the throat, with a child having to contact police.
Judge Jo Kidd described the terror caused as 'truly horrific.' In February this year, while Kelly was on bail, he again attacked his pregnant partner by invading her home, biting her face, and leaving her with two black eyes.
In March, he returned to her home with another man, holding a knife, which led her to call police in a panic.
The victim described feeling scared and worried for herself and her children, especially because Kelly was with someone else and had a knife.
Kelly, 29, of Faygate Court, in Hemlington, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating, intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and having a bladed article.
Some offences occurred while he was on bail.
He expressed remorse and shame for his actions.
Kelly lost his job at Teesport and was self-medicating with non-prescribed drugs, which contributed to his behavior.
His time in prison has helped him stabilize.
The court noted his repeated visits to the victim's address, causing terror, which was a highly aggravating factor, especially considering the presence of young children.
Kelly was sentenced to 48 months in prison.
