KHURAM AHKTER PLEADS GUILTY IN PAISLEY TO SEX OFFENSES INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRL
In December 2018, a man named Khuram Ahkter was officially placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register following a conviction related to a serious sexual offense involving a minor. The case unfolded in Paisley, where Ahkter, then 24 years old, was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a girl who was only 13 years old at the time.
According to court proceedings, Ahkter had begun a relationship with the young girl when he was just 17.
The girl, who cannot be identified publicly due to legal restrictions, was a resident of Paisley and was only 13 years old when their relationship started.
The incident came to light after a series of police investigations into child exploitation and abuse.
During a pre-trial hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court, Ahkter appeared visibly shocked as he admitted to the charges against him.
The court heard that the sexual encounters took place at a house in Paisley’s Shortroods area, as well as at another residence within the town.
The details of the case were outlined by fiscal depute Keri Marshall, who explained that the girl was a regular visitor to the Paisley area and first met Ahkter at a house party.
Marshall further stated that the girl and Ahkter began to frequent the same locations around Paisley, and by 2012, when she was 14, Ahkter had initiated contact through Facebook.
Their online communication quickly developed into a real-world relationship, which continued over the following years.
By October 2014, the girl was 15 and was pregnant with Ahkter’s child.
The child was born in March 2015, but the relationship between the two deteriorated afterward.
Police investigations into the case intensified in September 2016, when officers attended the girl’s home as part of a broader inquiry into child exploitation.
During this operation, the girl provided a statement about her relationship with Ahkter, and DNA testing confirmed that he was the biological father of her child.
The police also collected a DNA sample from the child to establish paternity.
Ahkter was arrested on February 7 following the police operation.
During his interview with authorities, he chose to remain silent, replying with “no comment” to questions posed by the officers.
Despite this, he later pleaded guilty to a charge under the Sexual Offences of Scotland Act, admitting to having sexual intercourse with a minor in breach of the law.
His defense lawyer, Amy Spencer, described her client’s situation as devastating, emphasizing that the relationship was both loving and consensual from his perspective.
She highlighted that Ahkter has a young child, now four years old, with the girl involved in the case, and that he is currently in a new relationship with another child, who is 14 months old.
Spencer expressed that the allegations have profoundly affected Ahkter’s life, acknowledging that there was no legal defense available to him.
In light of the guilty plea, Sheriff James Spy decided to defer sentencing to allow for the preparation of background reports and a specialized assessment from the Pathways Project, an organization that works with sex offenders in Renfrewshire.
Ahkter is scheduled to return to court on January 18, where his fate will be decided based on the reports and further legal considerations.
