OXFORD MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CHURCHYARD
On June 21, Khaliz Alshimery, aged 48, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court to 12 years in prison plus a five-year extended license following a serious sexual assault.The assault involved a female student who was walking home around 2:30 a.m.
after an evening out when Alshimery forcibly pulled her into St Clement's churchyard off Marston Road and committed the sexual assault.
Detective Inspector Krista Thompson of Oxford CID described the case as shocking, noting that the attacker was a stranger who targeted her because she was alone, exploiting her vulnerability.
Inspector Thompson praised the victim for her resilience and bravery in supporting the legal process, emphasizing that Alshimery's sentence was appropriate and necessary for community safety.
She also commented that such cases are infrequent and underscored the importance of delivering justice to ensure a safer environment for women and girls in Oxford.
